Spring is in the air. Now is the time to tend to your gardens to make sure they are wonderful when summer arrives! Here is a garden care checklist:
April
Pull winter mulch off gradually as plants show signs of new growth.
Feed and prune roses.
Divide and transplant summer blooming perennials.
Plant tender bulbs & tubers (gladiola, lilies & dahlias).
Prune winter Jasmine after flowering.
Remove all dead blooms from bulbs
Plant primroses and pansies.
Pinch off tips of sweet pea seedlings & mums, when they are 4 inches tall.
Plant summer flowering bulbs like dahlias, gladiolas & lilies.
Plant annual seeds of asters, cosmos, marigolds, zinnias in the garden.
Divide perennials.
Move your stored fuchsias & geraniums outdoors. Trim them back & feed.
Once done blooming, deadhead your spring flowering bulbs.

Plant summer flowering bulbs & set summer flowering perennials.
Break off wilting tulip or daffodil heads, but continue to feed & care for them.
Plant pansies, dianthus, petunias, geraniums, fuchsias & impatiens.
Lightly dress perennials with an all purpose 5-10-10 fertilizer.
Set stakes next to taller plants to support against winds.
Promptly remove spent flowers from any plant unless your intent is to harvest the seeds.
June
Pinch back any annuals.
Pinch your chrysanthemum’s to encourage more blossoms.
Divide spring flowering perennials.
Check roses for mildew, aphid, black-spot or other disease problems.
Fertilize roses each month through summer.
Deadhead your annuals to encourage more flowers.
Plant tuberous begonias.
